Rising Floodwaters in River Ravi Prompt Precautionary Measures in Punjab

Water levels in the River Ravi continue to rise, while severe flooding in Kot Momin has led to the closure of all educational institutions.

According to Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Asif Bilal Lodhi, the flow of the River Ravi has reached 155,000 cusecs, and between 9 and 10 a.m. today, a surge of 160,000 cusecs is expected to pass through Shahdara. Despite the rising waters, the situation remains under control.

District authorities predict that by this afternoon, a flood flow of 200,000 cusecs may pass through the River Ravi.

As a precaution, 22 villages across five tehsils of Lahore have been evacuated, and full clearance from the Ravi riverbed has been completed.

All relevant authorities—including Lahore Police, Rescue 1122, Irrigation Department, Livestock, and Civil Defense—are on high alert and actively monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Sargodha has announced the closure of all private and public educational institutions in Kot Momin Tehsil until September 2. A notification has been issued, granting immediate holidays to students due to the flood risk.

At Talibwala Bridge, water flow has reached 600,000 cusecs, causing water levels to rise continuously.
