Heavy rains expected in Punjab, KP, Balochistan, and Sindh, alert issued by authorities.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more thunderstorms and rain in different cities of the country from tomorrow until September 2, after which the NDMA has issued an alert.

According to NDMA, heavy rains are expected in the northern and northeastern districts of Punjab on August 30 and 31, with possible flooding. The northern districts include Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin.
In central and southern Punjab, rains are expected from August 29 to 31, raising concerns of low-lying areas being submerged. Possible flooding is feared in Multan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rains are expected from August 29 to 31, with a risk of landslides in Malakand and Hazara divisions. The districts include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, D.I. Khan, Tank, Kohat, and Bannu.
In Azad Kashmir, heavy rains are likely from August 29 to September 2 in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber, with the risk of landslides.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rains are forecast from August 29 to 31, with fears of landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Districts include Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, and Ghanche.
In Sindh’s coastal districts including Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar, rains are expected from August 30 to September 2. Karachi faces the risk of urban flooding due to heavy downpours.
In interior Sindh, heavy rains are likely in Hyderabad, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Kashmore from August 30 to September 1.
In Balochistan’s coastal and eastern districts including Gwadar, Kech, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Lasbela, and Kalat, rains are expected from August 29 to September 1, with the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Additional rains may worsen flood situations in areas adjoining the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers.
The NDMA has advised the public to immediately contact local administration and rescue officials in case of emergency. It stated that NDMA is monitoring relief operations in affected areas in coordination with all concerned institutions, and all departments are ensuring measures to tackle emergency situations.
